The use of smart cards in the medical industry are many including storing allergic reaction information in a smart card to complete medical histories. Innovonics®, Inc. developed the patented PC Pay® system to provide consumers an input device to perform secure credit card, debit card, and smart card transactions from their personal computer. However, the device can also be used in a Doctors Office, or Hospital to gain access to information stored in a smart card. The PC Pay device connects very easily between the keyboard and keyboard input of IBM compatible personal computers, and to the Apple Desktop Bus of Macintosh computers.

The PC Pay device has been certified as a home banking terminal by one of the largest Automated Teller Machine (ATM) networks in United States. The device has even been demonstrated on national TV to load value to a smart card from an individuals bank account via the Internet. Incorporated into the PC Pay device is very secure encryption commonly used for ATM transactions at banks, and tampering with the device will result in self-destruction of the memory contents that may store confidential data such as encryption keys.

The model PC2000™ device includes a smart card reader/writer. The interface software for IBM compatible personal computers interfaces very easily to Visual C++, Visual Basic, Delphi, and other software development languages via an Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) Automation Server. Innovonics also has introduced a software interface to Microsoft Explorer internet browser via an ActiveX control, and to Netscape Navigator browser via a Plug-in.

The PC Pay developer kits are available in different configurations for Windows 3.1x, Windows 95, and Windows NT development. In large quantity orders the price can be less than $60 each.

Innovonics is already working with many banks, ATM networks, computer, software companies, and system integrators around the world to bring secure transactions to the home and office personal computer. The use of medical smart cards with the PC Pay device are many including allergic reaction information, medical insurance information, eligibility for medical services information, and secure access token to medical records in an intranet database.
