Once airline, rental car and hotel reservations have been selected, the user could select to download the entire itinerary onto a smartcard, in essence becoming an electronic ticket. The ticket (or smartcard) would contain all billing information, as well as reservation information (flight times, rental car reservation number, hotel room number, etc) and could be used in place of a physical ticket. The encoded information would be entirely encrypted and also take the place of a credit card. In the future, the payment could be made directly from the smartcard (from a travel expense account, etc) and frequent flier miles could be assessed directly.

The use of a smart card to store a travel itinerary is really exciting. No more looking for airline tickets, rental agreements, and hotel reservations. The future of smart cards and travel will include the ability to record transactions in a smart card to quickly and accurately generate a well documented travel expense report. The smart card used with the Innovonics' PC Pay® device and personal computer could be used to keep the many different loyalty travel programs in one card instead of the many frequent flyer, hotel loyalty, and rental loyaty programs requiring different plastic cards today. The user of a "Travel Smart Card" could simply carry one card with all the pertinent information to record loyalty rewards. Furthermore, the user could review the current status of awards from one source instead obtaining from many sources.
